Thank you for telling us about the problems in your home. Because you rent from a private landlord, your claim falls outside the cases we are currently able to take on — our practice acts for tenants of councils, housing associations and other social landlords.
That does not mean you don’t have rights, or that nothing can be done. Private tenants are protected by the same core repairing laws, and the organisations below can help you take it further:
Where to get help as a private tenant
Councils can inspect private rented homes, and have powers to order landlords to fix serious hazards. Contact the housing or environmental health department of your local council.

Some firms do act for private tenants on housing disrepair. The Law Society’s search at solicitors.lawsociety.org.uk lets you find one near you.
Whatever you do next: keep reporting the problems to your landlord in writing, and keep dated photos of the conditions. That record will matter whoever helps you.
